new camera

We got a new camera! Our old one wasn't bad and it worked OK, but you would have to wait f-o-r-e-v-e-r in order to be able to take another picture. We decided that when you have a baby, you don't have that kind of time to capture the moment. So, much to Paul's excitement, we bought a new camera. Here are some pictures we've taken with it so far...

By the way, no baby yet. We will definitely keep you all updated. Our due date is May 19, and if this boy doesn't arrive by then, our doctor is going to induce on the 20th. We would much rather him come on his own, so you can join us in praying that he will come in the next week or so!

We have rose bushes on the side of our house. I don't know how to care for rose bushes, and last summer basically chopped them down pretty low. They must have liked that because there are probably over 100 roses on our bushes...so pretty!

The belly at 38 weeks.

We went on a date to a nice steakhouse. It is called Lisa West's Double Nickle, and evidently it is the 8th best steakhouse in Texas...who knew that Lubbock, TX would have a ranked steakhouse. It was really fun to have an expensive meal before the baby arrives. I have the best husband!

This is about how I am feeling some days!

" Them thar teeth r' purty! "

Oh no! Out of the 100 major US cities included in this survey, it was determined that Lubbock residents have the worst teeth! Thats right sports fans, Lubbock came in dead last at the 100 position. The positive PR campaign continues for Lubbock…Ebola virus, stolen babies, highest teen STD rate in the state… and now the worst teeth! - Paul

It’s a good thing Sarah and I are immune since we're not originally from here...

thoughts

- our kid is an acrobat. I think my ribs on the left side are bruised and my bladder may never be the same.

- we are getting pretty nervous about our boy's birth and about what happens after he is born - like bringing him home.

- I am feeling a little sad that my time of having Paul all to myself is coming to an end. I feel the same about our rhythm of life.

- I am tired of constantly dealing with some things at work

- I love that Paul reads to our son just about every night before we go to bed

- OK, so, I am more than nervous about our son living outside my body...I am more scared.

- I am thankful for all my friends who have struggled through infertility because I was able to be gracious the other day when my co-worker told me she was so sorry she wasn't at my baby shower but it was a hard day for her...she and her husband have wanted to be pregnant for 24 years.

- in the same situation, I was even more thankful that the Lord called me to marriage "later" in my life...I know 29 isn't really later, but it was tons later than most people I am in community with. I am able to somewhat (not totally or completely by any stretch) relate to longing for something that isn't fulfilled.

- We feel so overwhelmed by all the random stuff that needs to be done...cleaning the house, finishing some shopping for the baby, finishing the baby's room, packing our hospital bags, enjoying each other.

- I am excited about the surprise date that I will have with Paul in the next few days...I don't know when or what.

- I am excited that this weekend has been declared "Doing things for just us weekend". That means everything else on our to-do list will be put on hold so we can have fun together and do things that give us joy. I will be getting a pedicure for these swollen feet.

- We are 35 and a half weeks pregnant (actually I am, but it's Paul's baby too)...

Tour de Nursery

We've enjoyed giving our boy a nice place to come home to. So without further ado, after lots of work and inhaled paint fumes (by Paul not Sarah!), here is the nursery:
(sorry about the small video...this is our first attempt at editing and posting a video online)

surprises and blessings

I've been surprised at a few things during my pregnancy, and I thought I'd share them:
- I think my maternity clothes are so much better than my real clothes. I mean they are cuter and look decent. I may be tired of wearing them since I don't have as many maternity clothes as I do regular clothes, but I still like them.

- I thought I would not like feeling our boy move around inside me, but I really do. I kinda thought it would weird me out. I enjoy his kicks and squirms. Sometimes, it even tickles a little bit. What I don't like is when he has something jammed up under my ribs.

- I didn't think I would be as emotional about having a baby as I am.

- I didn't know how apprehensive I would be about my life changing - especially my relationship with Paul.

- I really love bagels with cream cheese. Used to, it was rarely that I ate a bagel with cream cheese. Now, I eat it every morning for my second breakfast...my first breakfast is an instant breakfast.

- I want to savor this time more than I thought I would.

My two blood sisters and my sister-in-law gave me a baby shower the other weekend in Houston. It was so much fun! We were really blessed with lots of great gifts as well wishes. I got to see some dear friends (both my friends and people who are like second moms to me). I saw my friend, Charissa, which was so fun. Charissa and I knew each other in college and then her husband, John, and I were on staff with InterVarsity together at Texas A&M. She and I go way back, and it was so great to see her...you should check out her blog - the link is on the left.

We also bought our crib last week! It is crazy to look in our son's room and see his little bed. We were going to order it from a store, but then the shipping total came to $150. SO, we decided to look around town to see if there was anything in stock that we liked. We found a crib at a little boutique here in town that we really liked. When we asked about it, we were told that they were discontinuing ordering from the particular company that makes the crib. They gave us 20% off the crib, and we got to take it home that day!

While I was in Houston, my sweet husband painted our boy's room. It looks great. I promise pictures to come soon.

And, here is the random part of this post...did you vote today (if you live in Texas)? I am not going to get into politics right now, but I think I will write something very soon.
